Female Writers in Late-Night, by the Numbers

NOTES:

1) The host doubles as a writer on each of these shows but we did not include them in the counts.
2) Although Jimmy Kimmel only has one female writer, she is a co-head writer. None of the other shows hosted by men have female head writers.
3) Craig Ferguson’s only female writer is his sister.

I am irritated that this chart suggests that Molly McNearney slept her way onto the position of co-head writer on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. She was a writer’s assistant that was talented and hard working, which got her noticed and hired as a staff writer. She then kept producing great work that got her the job as co-head writer.

While it’s important to notice that the ratio between male and female writers in the writers’ room is very imbalanced, it’s also important to not knock the funny, talented and hard working writers that happen to also be female who are working on these staffs, paving the way.

But like… the part where Chelsea Lately has the most… thats bad right?
